Test Day Requirements

Test Day Requirements

This is not the day to get lost and arrive late. Make sure you know where the test center is and arrive test center at least 30 minutes prior to your scheduled GMAT appointment. You will need to sign in when you arrive at the test center. If you arrive late, you may not be admitted, and your test fee may be forfeited.

The following regulations apply during the entire GMAT test administration, which begins at sign in, includes breaks, and ends at sign out. Violations will be documented by the test administrator and reported to the Educational Testing Service, which administers the test on behalf of the Graduate Management Admission Council -

  • You are required to present acceptable and valid identification (ID). ID verification at the test center may also include thumb-printing, photographing, videotaping, or other forms of electronic ID confirmation. If you refuse to participate, you will not be permitted to test and you will forfeit your test fee. The following are acceptable forms of ID you may use at the test center: passport
    • national identity card
    • driver's license
    • military ID card
    • employee ID card
    • student ID card
    • letter confirming your identity
  • You will be asked to sign a confidentiality statement at the test center. Your signature is required. If you do not sign the statement, you will not be permitted to take the test and you will forfeit your test fee.
  • You will not be permitted to use testing aids during the test session or during breaks. Testing aids include, but are not limited to:
    • Notes
    • Scratch paper
    • Calculators or watch calculators
    • Stop watches or watch alarms
    • Personal data assistants (PDAs)
    • Telephones or cell phones
    • Beepers or pagers
    • Photographic devices
    • Stereos or radios
    • Any other electronic devices
    • Books or pamphlets
    • Dictionaries, translators, or thesauruses
    • Pens or any other writing utensils (pencils are provided at the test center)
    • Rulers or any other measuring device
  • You cannot exceed the two scheduled five-minute breaks during the test.
  • You may not communicate with anyone about the content of the GMAT test while the test session is in progress or during breaks.
  • You will not be permitted to leave the test center premises during the test session or during breaks.
  • You may not use telephones or cell phones during the test session or during breaks.
  • You may not remove scratch paper from the testing room at any time. All scratch paper must be returned after the test session.
  • You may not remove or attempt to remove test questions from the test center. Under no circumstances may test questions or any part of the exam be removed, reproduced, and/or disclosed by any means to any person or entity.
  • Disruptive behavior in any form will not be tolerated. The test administrator has sole discretion in determining what constitutes disruptive behavior.

The test administrator is authorized to dismiss you from a test session for—

  • Attempting to take the test for someone else
  • Failing to provide acceptable identification
  • Creating a disturbance
  • Giving or receiving unauthorized help
  • Eating or drinking during the test
  • Using testing aids of any kind
  • Accessing your locker
  • Exceeding the time permitted for scheduled breaks
  • Leaving the test center
  • Attempting to remove scratch paper from the testing room
  • Attempting to tamper with the operation of the computer
  • Attempting to remove test questions (in any format) from the testing room
  • Failing to adhere to any of the other procedures and regulations cited on this Web site or in other official GMAT™ publications
  • Refusing to follow directions

Failure to comply with the test procedures and regulations or with the test administrator's directions can result in ETS taking actions on you.

If technical problems at the test center necessitate canceling your test session or prevent reporting of your scores, you will be offered the opportunity to schedule another test appointment free of charge. Or, you may receive a full refund of the original test fee.
